State CME requirements area vailable form the AMA at: http://www.ama-assn.org/ama1/pub/upload/mm/40/table16-2007_new.pdf

In general, this is what the states set requirements around:

  • no. of hours (Required Number of CME Hours; Average Hours)
  • amt of time to meet the req't (per Year(s))
  • type of credit to earn (AMA/AOA/AAFP/ACOG)
  • equivalent type(s) of credit (Certificates Accepted as Equivalent)
  • CME content (State-Mandated CME Content)
  • misc. requirements (Additional Notes)

If there was a way to describe these requirements in XML, then that would allow for the items reported via the Medbiq. Activity Report to have context (i.e., not only what credit was earned, but also, the requirement(s) that are satisfied for licensure).
