We are seeking your input on the use of competencies in healthcare education.
The publication of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education's Outcomes Project, CanMeds 2005, the Scottish Doctor Learning Outcomes, and the UK General Medical Council's Tomorrow's Doctor reflect the growing use of competencies for learning, assessment, program evaluation, and curriculum management. As competencies become more extensive and as more regulatory organizations require the adoption of competencies, their implementation becomes increasingly difficult.
Technology standards may be able to facilitate the implementation and management of competency frameworks within healthcare education. MedBiquitous is accredited to develop technology standards for healthcare education and competency assessment. [para about MedBiq] Its Competencies Working Group is exploring the development of technical standards for competency frameworks to support the use of competencies for learning, assessment, program evaluation, and curriculum management in healthcare education. Technology standards provide a common language for the exchange and use of competency data. We do not seek to standardize the competencies themselves, but rather the common language.
The MedBiquitous Competencies Working Group is seeking volunteers to complete a short survey of the use of competencies in health care education.
The best technology standards are based on best practices and clearly identified needs. To help us determine best practice and user needs, we have developed a survey that will ask you for your ideas and opinions on the development and use of competencies in healthcare education.
