From JISC Legal: Open source software promoters are triumphant after a US appeals court held that copyright protection applies to their work, even though it is given away for free. Experts believe that this is an important victory as lots of companies are reliant on open source and should not have to relinquish their ability to enforce their copyright protection as a result. The appeals court upheld that open source licenses may set conditions on the use of copyright protected work. The judgement upholds popular open source licenses used in healthcare education, such as the Creative Commons license.
