TSC call, June 24, 2009
Attending: Joel Farrell, Chair; James Fiore, Dan Rehak, Carl Singer, Valerie Smothers
Joel commented that he had distributed a document from IBM - he does have permission to distribute. We can draw from this and other documents. We identified things we could remove. The minutes of our face to face meeting has a list of things to omit. Joel commented that the list was still valid. As a first cut, we could remove those sections, remove references to bpmc, and rewrite the introduction. The general approach to web services is pretty generic. Some links may be internal - we would need to modify those. Joel asked Carl to look at the guidelines for using ATOM. We can factor in CECity's experience with ATOM.
The remaining sections the group can review and see what should be modified. We had found a document online from Sun. That was probably more positioning than guidelines. There are links Carl sent. Valerie will prepare a draft for the next call. Then people can spend time reviewing sections. Carl commented that the document validates many of the decisions they made. Joel asked him to look for any discrepancies. Carl recommended pointing to outside references for things like JSON, or putting in an appendix. Carl added JSON can be used in a serialized format for use in a web application. But the core will be about XML. Joel commented we would have to add more information about JSON since it would be new to many members. Joel encouraged Valerie to make notes like do we really want to keep this?
Valerie commented that we would want to outline use cases of interest to our members. The board organizations in particular would be good to focus on. James agreed getting primary source data using REST would be helpful to the boards, also sharing certification data. Carl added AOA is already using restful services. Medscape does it a little differently.
Joel added that the example of REST included in the document would have to go. Resources and getting started is good. Links from Carl and Dan would be good to reference.
Joel asked Valerie to get draft out by the 8th. We would not have a call on the 8th, we would wait until July 22.
Dan commented that IMS released white paper on SOA and education. It is encumbered by IMS IP policy. Dan will post the link to the group.
