Trigger event

The learner engages in an assessment activity. It may be that a patient provides an opportunity for assessment on a particular skill, or the learner has been directed to the assessment activity by a preceptor or other faculty,

Sucess end condition

The LRS tracks the learner's performance on specific competencies.

Assumptions

The preceptor system, assessment system, and simulation system are capable of generating XAPI messages and sending them to the LRS.

The learner is identified to the preceptor system, assessment system, and simulation system.

The preceptor is identified to the preceptor system.

A relevant competency framework has been defined in a machine readable format.

A relevant performance framework has been defined in a machine readable format.

The preceptor, assessment, or simulation system is indicated in the context of the XAPI messages or the system is authenticating to the LRS.

If the preceptor, assessment, or simulation system is not at the "home" institution, the agent offering the activity may be indicated as the authority asserting that the individual did what the statement says they did.

Description

The learner performs a task or engages in an assessment activity using an assessment system.

The assessment system sends a message to the LRS recording the learner action, indicating the competency involved and, if applicable, the learner's performance on that competency as described by a performance framework.

IF the assessment activity is a self-assessment, the message to the LRS indicates that it is a self-assessment.

IF a preceptor is observing, the preceptor views the learner's performance and uses the preceptor system to record their assessment of the learner's performance, along with comments and recommendations for remediation.

IF the preceptor is asked to signoff on the learner's achievement of a competency, the preceptor may sign off on the learner's achievement of a competency or may indicate that the learner has not achieved the competency.

The preceptor system sends a message to the LRS recording the preceptor's assessment of the task, indicating the competency involved and, if applicable, the learner's performance on that competency as described by a performance framework.

The preceptor system sends a message to the LRS recording preceptor comments and any recommendations for remediation.

IF a simulation system is involved, the simulation system sends a message to the LRS recording the learner action, any related metrics (ie at a rate of 30 per minute), the competency involved and, if applicable, the learner's performance on that competency as described by a performance framework.

Transaction

The assessment system sends a message to the LRS indicating the learner's performance or their self assessment of their performance in relation to a competency.

The preceptor system sends a  message to the LRS indicating the learner's performance in relation to a competency.

The simulation system sends a  message to the LRS indicating the learner's performance in relation to a competency.

Exceptions

The learner does not complete the assessment.

System access to the LRS is denied.
